Vasili Vasilevich Sokolov was born in 1915. He studied at the Repin Academy of Art in St. Petersburg until 1941, when he suspended his education to go to the front lines with the Russian Army in World War II. In 1943 he resumed his studies and graduated in 1946.
Active in St. Petersburg, Sokolov is head of a painting studio at the Repin Academy of Art.
Important shows include:
- 1947, ‘49, ‘50, ‘55: All-Union Art Exhibition; Moscow.
- 1960: “Soviet Russia”; Moscow.
Well-known works include:
- “Lenin’s Speech at the 3rd Congress of the KomSoMol” (brigade work); 1950, Tretyakov Gallery, Moscow.
