Andrei Ilich Potapenko was born in the village of Dnepro-Kamenka in the Ekaterinoslav Province, Ukraine in 1925. He graduated from the Dnepropetrovsk Art College. He participated in a number of All-Union and regional exhibitions.
Potapenko became a member of the Artists’ Union in 1968, and since 1984 has been an honored artist of USSR and Ukraine.
Some of his well known works include: - “Warm Evening”, 1958 - “Fort Shevchenko” - “Over the Dnepr River”, 1968 - “Kosa Oral”
