Yuri Andreevich Makhotin was born on March 10, 1930, in the Bryansk Region. From 1946 to 1951 he studied at the art school in Orel.
He became a member of the Artists’ Union of Russia in 1970.
In 1981 he was named an Honored Artist of Russia. He has had nineteen one-man shows and takes part in exhibitions all over Russia.
From 1979 he has lived and worked in the village of Ovstug in the Bryansk Region. Every year he goes to the Repin dacha (creative house) to paint in the company of other artists.
