Andrei Anatoliovich Levitin was born in 1947 in Leningrad to a family of artists. His father is well-known artist and academician Anatoli Levitin.
From 1960 to 1966 he studied at the Secondary Art School associated with the Academy of Arts. He studied at the Repin Institute in the studio of Alexander Zaytsev, and graduated in 1972. He became a member of the Artists’ Union in 1983.
Levitin participated in municipal and All-Union exhibitions. He received international exposure through exhibitions of Russian artists:
- 1996: Citta-di-Aosta, Peschiera Borromeo
- 1997: Anagna, Turin, Florence, Milan, Melegnano
He has had one-man shows in St. Petersburg (1991, 1994), and in Italy (1997).
Museums representing Levitin’s works include:
- The Museum of the Academy of Arts, St. Petersburg.
- The Historical Museum, Moscow.
- The Collection of the Ministry of Culture, Moscow.
- The Christopher Gerard Collection, New York.
- The George Pompidou Centre, Paris.
- The Pirra Gallery, Turin.
- The Fine Arts Foundation of International Arts Palace, Bejing.
His works can also be found in private collections in Russia, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, Norway, Japan, and the United States.
Levitin lives and works in St. Petersburg.
