Vasili Pavlovich Krivoruchko was born in 1919 in the village of Novo-Peschanoye (Burlinsky Region, Altai territory). He moved to Donetsk in 1926 and attended the art school at the Donetsk House of Culture for Miners.
From 1935 to 1939 he joined the Soviet army and went to fight in World War II in Berlin. Upon his return, he moved to Voronezh. He became a member of the Artists’ Union of Russia in 1952.
A fan of seascapes, Krivoruchko took trips between 1963 and 1964 to the sea of Asov and to the Baltic, White, and Barents Seas. The year after he returned, Krivoruchko had his first one-man show in Voronezh. Two other one-man shows followed there, in 1975 and 1977.

Krivoruchko was married to artist Kseniya Uspenskaya. He died in 1994.
