Vasili Nikiforovich Kovalenko was born in 1951. He has been an active participant in City, All-Russian and international art exhibitions since 1979. In 1981 he graduated from the Mukhina Higher School of Applied Arts in Leningrad (now St. Petersburg). He has been a member of the Artists’ Union of Russia since 1990. He has participated in all famous placard design exhibitions in St. Petersburg, which were most abundant in the period of perestroika and glasnost. He was laureate of the “Perestroika and Ourselves” All-Union Competition. He is a popular placard designer, and is now primarily engaged in easel painting.

He is married to artist Natalia Verdi and their daughter Masha Sokolova is also an artist.
Kovalenko’s paintings can be found in private collections in Russia, the USA, Great Britain, Canada, France, Italy, Spain, Germany, Sweden, Finland, the Netherlands, and Japan.
