Khoroshilov, Yevgeni Borisovich

Photo

Yevgeni Borisovich Khoroshilov was born in Voronezh on May 5, 1930. His parents were killed in World War II and the boy was cared for by his grandmother. When fascists occupied Voronezh, he lost his grandmother and left Voronezh with other refugees. He saw all the terror of the war, but survived the bombings and hunger through the kindness of others. After the war, Yevgeni, half-starved and half-clothed, arrived in Voronezh. Again kind people took care of him and became surrogate parents for him.

Throughout his childhood, Yevgeni loved to draw. After secondary school he graduated from the Elets Art College in 1953 with excellent marks. He then attended the Higher Arts and Crafts College in Leningrad before entering the Repin Academy of Art, where he studied in the studio of professor M. Y. Neprintsev. In 1960 his diploma painting, “Baikal”, was selected for the Union Exhibition of Young Artists.

After graduating from the Academy, Yevgeni took part in Arists’ Union and Republic exhibitions with great success. Some important exhibitions include:

  • All-Union exhibition of degree works “On the Bratsk Ges”
  • Personal Exhibition: 1961
  • Regional Exhibition “The Region of Chernozem (Black Earth)”: 1964
  • Regional Exhibition in Tula: 1967
  • All-Union Exhibition “Artists for Fishermen”, Astrakhan

He lived and worked in Voronezh, and his works can be found in art collections in Russia and abroad. He died in 1982 after only twenty-two years of work.
