Nikita Petrovich Fomin was born in 1949, the son of the well-known landscape painter and Academician, Pyotr Fomin.
After completing Middle Art School, Fomin studied at the Repin Institute, graduating in 1973. He graduated from Professor and Academician Andrei Mylnikov’s mural painting studio in 1978. He became a member of the Russian Artists’ Union in 1975 and has served on a variety of union councils. He has received the Laureate Government Prize of Russia for his paintings. Sukhov is a member of a four-person alliance called FoRUS, and acromym for Fomin, Repin, Uralov, and Sukhov, four artists who have known each other since boyhood and worked together all of their adulthood. Adept in fresco and mosaics as well as oils, the four artists collaborate to produce monumental works. There are many murals by FoRUS in St. Petersburg restaurants, Metro stations, hotels, concert halls, and government buildings. All four men have outstanding careers as individual artists as well.
